Planting Tips for Hibiscus:

  • Choose a location with well-draining soil and ample sunlight for optimal growth and blooming.
  • Dig a hole twice the width of the plant's root ball and ensure the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface when planting.
  • Space multiple Luna Hibiscus Rose plants approximately 2 to 3 feet apart to allow for proper air circulation and growth.

Watering Hibiscus:

  • Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, especially during the plant's active growth period.
  • Water deeply and thoroughly, ensuring the water reaches the plant's root zone.
  • Avoid overhead watering to prevent fungal diseases; instead, use a soaker hose or drip irrigation system.
  • Use our Moisture Maxx non-ionic wetting agent in periods of drought.

Mulching Hibiscus:

  • Apply a layer of organic mulch to your hibiscus, such as bark chips or shredded leaves, around the base of the plant to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds.
  • Maintain a mulch layer approximately 2 to 3 inches thick, being careful not to pile mulch against the hibiscus plant's stem, which can lead to rot.

Pruning Hibiscus:

  • Prune 'Valentine's Crush' hibiscus in late winter or early spring to remove dead or damaged branches and encourage new growth.
  • Use sharp, clean pruning to maintain its compact and tidy appearance, but avoid excessive pruning, which can reduce flowering.

Fertilizing Guidelines for Hibiscus:

  • Feed 'Valentine's Crush' Hibiscus with a balanced, SR-18-5-10 slow-release fertilizer formulated for flowering shrubs in early spring.
  • Avoid over-fertilizing, as this can lead to excessive vegetative growth at the expense of flowering.
